Coaches Profiles:
Cap Raeder
Cap is part of the most innovative and productive
goaltending staffs in NHL history. A precise
tactician, Cap has been an integral part of the development
of several NHL star goalies for the San Jose Sharks. Former
Calder Trophy winner (NHL Rookie of the year) and NHL
All-Star Evgeni Nabakov, Vezina Trophy winner (NHL’s
best goaltender) Miikka Kiprusoff , Vesa Toskela and
many more.
After starring (All-American) at the University of
New Hampshire in 1974, Cap went on to play for the
Harford Whaler’s in the World Hockey Association,
a rival league to the NHL boasting stars such as Bobby
Hull and Gordie Howe. Cap went on to play for
Team USA in the 1976 Canada Cup (now known as the World
Cup of Hockey). Prior to his current position
as goaltending coach and scout for the San Jose Sharks,
cap coached at Clarkson University (NCAA Div. 1), the
LA. Kings (NHL), Boston Bruins and San Jose.
Tony Martino
Tony is a fierce competitor, just ask Graeme Townshend,
he had to face Tony everyday in practice at RPI. Tony
backstopped Plattsburgh State University to a National
Title. A veteran of 7 professional season’s,
Tony won the Central Hockey Leagues Goaltender of the
Year Award in 1993.
Martino began his coaching career with the New Mexico
Scorpions in 1999 in what was then the WPHL. He led
the franchise for three seasons, during which time
the WPHL and CHL merged, and compiled a 126-66-13 (.620)
record. He brought the Scorpions to the WPHL finals
during his first season behind the bench. He then moved
on to Knoxville (Atlantic Coast Hockey League) in 2003-04
and coached the Ice Bears into the finals before heading
overseas. Martino is currently scouting for the
Columbus Blue Jackets of the NHL.
Neil Little
A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI),
Neil went on to star for the Philadelphia Phantoms
and Philadelphia Flyer’s hockey clubs. Neil’s
career culminated with a Calder Cup championship for
the Phantoms in 1998. Neil is now responsible
for the development of all Philadelphia Flyer’s
goaltending prospects, like Brian Boucher, Martin Houle
and Scott Munroe. Neil presence will solidify
National Hockey Development’s NHL caliber staff
which is unmatched in the Goalie school industry.
Roy Sommer
Roy Sommer, a former NHL’er, joins
NHD as the longest tenured coach in the American Hockey
League. As
head coach of the San Jose Sharks top development team
the Worcester (MA) Sharks. The NHL Sharks boast
18 out of 23 rostered player’s developed by Roy.
David Cunniff
The Cunniff name is synonymous with Massachusetts
Hockey. David continues the rich tradition of
the Cunniff family name. David currently
serves as the Assistant Coach of the Worcester Sharks
of the American Hockey League. Along with Roy
Sommer, David is responsible for the development of
all Sharks player’s. Cunniff is a graduate
of Salem State College where he starred of the varsity
hockey team. David went on to play several years
in the AHL and ECHL before accepting his current position.
Kent Hulst
Kent is currently the head coach of North Yarmouth
Academy’s varsity hockey team. Under Kent’s
guidance the Panther’s have sailed to the top
of the New England Prep. School ranks. A star
player and record holder for the AHL’s Portland
Pirates for 7 years, Kent brings the experience of
an elite level professional to the NHD staff. If
you want to know how to get points, Kent is the guy
to listen to. A perennial points leader in the
AHL, Kent possess the communication skills to help
your young athlete learn the finer points of goal scoring
and playmaking that will make a big difference the
their game.
Matt Libby
A graduate of Providence College (Hockey East), Matt
brings a professional hockey background as a member
of the Washington Capitals top development team the
Portland Pirates. As one of the team’s
top defensemen, Matt will specialize in teaching our
defense skating and skills program. Matt is a
great communicator and a very enthusiastic and caring
individual who any parent would love to have working
with their children as a true role model.
Adam Nicholas
Adam has been with NHD for 5 years now and is one
of the best instructors in the business. His
rapport with the students and his high energy approach
is incredible. Adam is currently playing at Wentworth
University in Boston. Adam sustained a serious
Achilles tear last season causing him to have to transfer
from Elmira College to Wentworth to be closer to the
medical care he needed.

the Lewiston Maineiacs of the Quebec Major Junior
Hockey League (03 – present).

by the National Academy of Sports Medicine
